Upload lesson content

You can upload files as content for lessons.

The maximum file size you can upload for the lesson is determined by your web server configuration. Contact your system administrator if you have trouble uploading a file.

Make sure that prior to uploading content, you select the appropriate lesson option in the Lesson Type drop-down box. For example, if you are uploading a Word document, select the Generic - Not-scored option. Refer to the full list of supported file types for generic not-scored lessons.

  1. Configure and apply lesson settings as described in the procedure Configure lesson settings.

Once a new lesson’s settings have been applied, the Upload Content button at the bottom right of the Lesson Details window is enabled.

  2. Click Upload Content.

The result varies depending on the lesson type.

    When the Lesson Type is...

    Then, you...

    SCORM 2004
    (Content Producer or Generic)

will be given several options specific to this lesson type. Continue to step 3.

    other than SCORM 2004

can upload the content lesson file. Skip to Step 4.

  3. You have three options, when you are uploading a SCORM 2004 lesson.

If you want to upload the SCORM lesson as...

    Then, click...

the initial lesson of a new lesson block containing Sharable Content Objects (SCO)

    Create Structure.

an additional lesson of an existing lesson block containing Sharable Content Objects (SCO)

    Create Lesson.

    a non-SCORM lesson

    Cancel.

  4. Click Browse, and then locate and upload the lesson file. Once the file has been uploaded, the pop-up box closes and the Lesson Details form refreshes. Note that a launch file name is automatically inserted in the Lesson Location box after the content upload is complete.

There are two types of lessons that you can upload:

    • A lesson comprising a single file (other than a *.zip file). If you upload a single file, that file is also used as the launch file for the lesson, and its name is automatically inserted in the Lesson Location box.

    • Lessons, comprising multiple files and folders, that are contained within a *.zip file. If you upload a *.zip file, the system inserts a file from the *.zip file (with, for example, a file name ending with _launcher.html) into the Lesson Location box. This file is called the launcher file. However, it may not be the correct file, and you may need to manually insert the correct launch file name after the upload is complete. See step 3.

If you want to launch a lesson clip created with Content Producer 7.8.x, ensure that you select or insert only launcher files that end with *_launcher.html.

If you are uploading a zip file for a lesson, you may receive an error message during the upload process. If so, cancel the upload, extract the contents of the zip file and create a new zip file using WinZip. Make sure that the lesson contents of the zip file, especially the lesson launcher file, are in the root folder of the zip file, not in a sub-folder. Once you create the new zip file, upload it.

  5. In the Lesson Location box, you may have to adjust the automatically inserted launch file name, based on the type of lesson you uploaded:

    • If you uploaded an AICC lesson folder from your hard drive, you need to manually type the name of that lesson’s launch file in the Lesson Location box.

    • If you uploaded a Producer - Scored or Producer - Not-Scored lesson folder from your hard drive, the launch file information is automatically inserted in the Lesson Location box once the upload is complete, and you should not need to manually adjust it

    • If you uploaded an Generic - Not-Scored lesson from your hard drive, the name of the file (for example, a Microsoft Word or Excel file) appears automatically in the Lesson Location box.

If you are adding a Generic - Not-Scored lesson that is saved on a remote server, you can avoid the upload process and type the full URL of the file, for example http://www.<server location>.<file name in the Lesson Location box.

If you define an incorrect location or file name for a lesson, you cannot test launch the lesson nor can you save the lesson. If the location is incorrect and you attempt to save the lesson, a warning in red at the top of the Lesson Details window indicates that the location is incorrect.

  6. To confirm that the lesson you uploaded launches correctly, click Launch Content.

The lesson launches. Close the window when you are finished reviewing the lesson content.

  7. A Question button is available when the:

To view a list of the questions in this lesson, click Question. For more information, see Lesson Question window.

For Generic SCORM 2004 lessons, this information is not available until the lesson is launched and completed. For more information, see About Question-Level Tracking.

  8. Click Save. You can now include the lesson in a lesson block, or assign the lesson to the appropriate organizations, groups, or individuals.
